The Bookey Readings at the Harlow presents two award-winnng Maine poets, Lee Sharkey and Glenn Morazzini, on Friday, October 21, beginning at 7pm. Refreshments are served and a $3 donation is appreciated at the door to support programming at the Harlow Gallery, which is located at 160 Water Street in Hallowell.

In 1974, Sharkey bought a hundred-year-old platen press, taught herself to set type and print, and produced over the course of a long Maine winter her first poetry chapbook. Since then, she has continued to work both on and off the grid as a writer and editor. Her poetry books include the just-published Walking Backwards (Tupelo Press, 2016), Calendars of Fire (Tupelo, 2013), and nine earlier full-length collections and chapbooks. She is the recipient of the Abraham Sutzkever Centennial Translation Prize, the Maine Arts Commission’s Fellowship in Literary Arts, the Shadowgraph Poetry Prize, and Zone 3’s Rainmaker Award in Poetry, and serves as the Senior Editor of the Beloit Poetry Journal.

Morazzini has won the Allen Ginsberg Poetry Award, Paumanok Poetry Prize, a Martin Dibner Poetry Fellowship, the Amy Clampitt Residency Poetry Fellowship, and a Maine Arts Commission Individual Fellowship Grant. He has also received a Pushcart Prize nomination and has been published in Poetry, RATTLE, Poet Lore, Patterson Review, and other journals.

During the reading, guests will enjoy “Fine Print”, An exhibition featuring artwork by 43 Maine artists which incorporates or is inspired by text or typography. Art exhibitions at the Harlow Gallery are always free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday 12-6 pm. The Harlow Gallery, a membership based 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to connecting and celebrating art, artists and community in downtown historic Hallowell since 1963, was voted “Best Gallery in Maine” for 2015 by the readers of Down East Magazine.
