Second Annual Music at Moody Concert Series

Kennebec Valley Community College's Moody Memorial Chapel will play host to the second annual Music at Moody concert series starting February 20 at 7 p.m. at the Chapel on KVCC's Alfond Campus on Route 201 in Hinckley.

Following a successful inaugural season, the concert series kicks off with a
faculty classical music concert featuring Joshua DeScherer on bass and Jesse
Feinberg on piano.

DeScherer, originally from Tenafly, New Jersey, began playing music at a young age, playing bass as an eight year old. He holds degrees in music from Colby College, Tufts University, and the University at Buffalo, here he earned a Ph.D. in Music Composition. Active in a wide variety of
musical areas, DeScherer can often be seen performing with local jazz bands,
orchestras, and chamber ensembles, and appearing as a solo performer. Working
as a freelancer, he has appeared with a long list of area musicians, and
performs regularly with the Colby College Symphony Orchestra. Joshua lives in
Brunswick, Maine, and works as an adjunct professor and double bass
instructor for a number of area colleges and universities.

Jesse Feinberg is an experienced performance pianist and teacher, and has studied many forms of music for the last 34 years. He attended Holyoke Community College and received an associate degree in Fine Arts, with a concentration in Jazz/Classical Piano Performance. After
graduating, he attended the New School University's Mannes School of Jazz and
Contemporary Music Program in New York City as a Jazz Piano Performance
Major. He also attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He
graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maine at Augusta's Jazz and
Contemporary Music program with a bachelor's degree in Jazz Piano Performance.
Jesse also teaches piano and coaches ensembles at The Portland Conservatory
of Music.

Dr. DeScherer and Feinberg will present a varied recital program, featuring music from the
Baroque era to the present day. Selections will include:"Prelude" from Suite No. 1 for solo cello Johann Sebastian Bach, Exercise on a Breeze (2009) Joshua DeScherer, "Prayer" from Jewish Live, vol. 1 Ernest Bloch,B. B. Wolf Jon Deak, Dee Song Enrico Pieranunzi, Vocalaise Sergei Rachmaninoff , andFailing, Tom Johnson.

The performance will also feature a number of DeScherer's own compositions for the double
bass, including the quiet, meditative Three Episodes in Frozen Time (2014)
and the soothing Lullaby for double bass and piano.
