Maine State Museum Presents: February School Vacation Invention Challenge

During February school vacation week, the Maine State Museum and the Maine State Library inAugusta invite visitors to make connections with inventors past and present. Use the museum’s family guide to explore home-grown Maine inventors, play the Path of Invention Game, make your own dream machine, or complete one of the Inventor’s Challenges and test out your new creation. Join the educators from the Maine State Museum and the Maine State Library’s Maker Space in celebrating the inventive spirit in all of us.

Tuesday – February 16:  10:00 – Noon and 2:00 – 4:00 at the Maine State Museum – Make a dream machine, take on an Inventor’s Challenge, or play the Path of Invention Game. Free with the price of museum admission.

Wednesday – February 17: 10:00 at the Maine State Library – Invent a Book! with an interactive read-aloud program featuring storytelling, dancing, singing, and fun. At the end of story time, everyone will bundle up all that creativity and make a book. This program is designed for children under 5 and their parents or caregivers. Older siblings are welcome (and they’ll have fun, too!). Free!

10:00 – Noon and 2:00 to 4:00 at the Maine State Museum – Make a dream machine, take on an Inventor’s Challenge, or play the Path of Invention Game.  Free with the price of museum admission.

1:00 – 3:00 at the Maine State Museum – Maine State Library staff come to the museum for an afternoon of creativity. Join them and learn how to: * use littleBits components to make a homemade flashlight or a creation of your choice; * build a cell phone docking station with Legos; * navigate a robot through an obstacle course using an iPad.  Free with the price of museum admission.

Thursday – February 18: 10:00 – Noon and 2:00 to 4:00 at the Maine State Museum – Make a dream machine, take on an Inventor’s Challenge, or play the Path of Invention Game.  Free with the price of museum admission.

Friday – February 19: 10:00 – Noon and 2:00 to 4:00 at the Maine State Museum – Make a dream machine, take on an Inventor’s Challenge, or play the Path of Invention Game.  Free with the price of museum admission.

The Maine State Museum is open Tuesday through Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 10am-4pm, closed Sunday and Monday. Admission is $2 for adults; $1 for senior adults over age 62 and children 6-18 years of age; children under 6 free. Maximum charge for families is $6. Cash and check payments only.
