Fort Western (1754) National Historic Landmark and Living Museum on the Kennebec River in downtown Augusta, will host its 24th annual Maple Syrup Day, Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 1-4 p.m. Come join us, relax and step into the past with the smells and tastes of the 18th century!

During our maple syrup demonstrations, we will whittle spiles, tap trees, collect and boil sap over an open fire. Inside our kitchen there will be a demonstration of Journey Cake baking over an open hearth and maple sugar, a staple sweetener of the 18th century, will be available for sampling.

Admission is free on Maple Syrup Day; however, donations are welcome and will benefit the Fort Western Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching, preserving and discovering local history in the Kennebec Valley. Fort Western (1754) is a National Historic Landmark and living museum in Augusta, Maine and America's oldest surviving wooden French & Indian War era garrison in North America illuminating 300 years of Maine and New England History.
