This presen tation will highlight the definition and principles of sustainable tourism development and provide insight into how Maine Huts & Trails has follo wed those. \nCarolann Ouellette joined Maine Huts & Trails as Executive Director in January 2017. Her most recent role was director of the Maine O ffice of Tourism, a position she has held since 2011. Under her leadership, Maine has benefited from multiple years of consistent growth in tourism. A graduate of Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, Carolann was chef/owner of an award-winning Maine restaurant in Jackman. She has a s trong background in outdoor recreation as a former Whitewater Guide and was operations manager for New England Outdoor Center. She also managed the Su garloaf Inn. In 2015, she was named by Maine Magazine as one of “50 Mainers Boldly Leading Our State.” Carolann has been involved in many organization s over the years including current Skowhegan Savings Bank Board of Director s and Coordinating Team member Maine Woods Consortium as well as past posit ions including Board Member at Large US Travel Association, Board Chair of Discover New England, Board Chair of Maine Tourism Association, and Grant A dvisor Western Mountains Fund, Maine Community Foundation.
