Julie RichardCreative Economy in the Kennebec Valley

Maine has an extremely robust creative sector that plays and important role in driving our economy.  Learn about the creative economy in Maine and the Kennebec Valley region, in particular.  Presented by Julie Richard, Executive Director of the Maine Arts Commission.

Julie Richard is currently the Executive Director of the Maine Arts Commission.  She most recently held the position of President & CEO of the West Valley Arts Council which operates in the West Valley of Greater Phoenix, Arizona. Julie earned BS degrees in Psychology and Music and a MA in Business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Previous positions include Managing Director of Tulsa Opera in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Managing Director of Syracuse Opera in Syracuse, New York; and Executive Director of the Cayuga Community College Foundation in Auburn, New York.  She holds positions on numerous boards including:  Snow Pond Arts Academy, the New England Foundation for the Arts, the Maine Film Commission, the Friends of the Blaine House, the Cultural Affairs Council, ArtsEngageME and the Maine Development Foundation’s Maine Downtown Center Advisory Board.  She has held many other positions on boards including national Board positions with Americans for the Arts and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Bolz Center for Arts Administration.  She has presented at numerous national conferences on topics such as board governance, strategic planning, fundraising, arts education programming, marketing the arts and more.
