Maine’s Approach to the Prevention of Opioid Rx Overuse and Abuse
This presentation provides an overview of Maine DHHS’ recent efforts to combat and prevent opioid misuse across the state. DHHS has taken a holistic and multimodal approach using evidence-based programs and initiatives, aimed at making a meaningful impact.
Dr. Christopher J. Pezzullo is the Chief Health Officer for Maine DHHS and the Medical Director for MaineCare. From 2011 to 2013 he served as President of the Maine Osteopathic Association. Prior to working at the Maine CDC, he was an associate professor at UNECOM in addition to serving as the University’s Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and the Medical Director for University HealthCare. He completed his pediatric residency at Maine Medical Center in Portland, and attended medical school at UNECOM (class of 1993). Dr. Pezzullo continues to practice at Mercy Hospital’s Harry E. Davis Pediatric Center. He is married and has two adult children.
